Round up of the Best Bible Reading Tips!

Personal Growth

If you have heard it once you have heard it 1000 times. You need to read your Bible every day! Or some type of version of the importance of having a “quiet time.” While we can agree with this statement, walking it out can prove to be MUCH harder.

My husband is a Jedi master in Bible reading. He has taught me much throughout the years. Even though I have the very best teacher, I have still struggled to remain consistent over the entire year.

This year however, God challenged me to write a short word on “using your voice for God,” EVERY SINGLE DAY from my Bible Reading Plan. It was an overwhelming task for me at first. The demand to write daily, coupled with the challenge of having a filter of speaking is tough. These tips have helped me to read and write successfully every single day (sometimes even writing several revelations per day!)

Here is roundup of all my favorite Bible Reading Tips! I even worked extra hard to make the all start with the letter S – just to make it more fun. : )

10 Simple and Easy Tips:

  1. Set yourself up for Success

    • Have all you need in ONE place

      • Pens, highlighter, blanket, your Bible, your notebook, your Bible Study

    • Try to leave your phone in a different room or silence all notifications and clear distractions

    • Put your bookmark where it starts for the next day – Eva Kubasiak

  2. Select a Version (you can understand)!

    • NLT, Message, and Passion are easy to understand

    • ESV, NKJ is more challenging

    • Listen to the Bible while you read

  3. Settle on a Plan (you can actually commit to)!

    • It is better to start small and build a habit than to over commit and never read anything consistently.

    • You should leave your time wanting more

    • Here are a few great reading plan options: She Reads Truth, McCheyne (This is the one I use) Daily Grace

  4. Schedule a Time

    • What gets scheduled gets done.

    • Take this appointment seriously. Make it at a time you will actually do it. If night time is better for you then go for it.

    • If your kiddos interrupt your time, include them in your time as best you can.

  5. Show up Daily!

    • You will not complete your Bible reading plan if you do not show up.

    • In order to actually read your Bible, you have to be present and do the work.

    • Show up whether you feel like it or not. This builds the habit needed to be consistent, no matter your circumstance. Remember this: Consistency connects dots!

  6. Spend time in Prayer (before reading)

    • Don’t read the Bible to get something out of it. Read the Bible to know God better.

    • Ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of your understanding. Ask Him to shut off all distractions. Repent of anything He may bring to mind.

    • Approach your reading time with a teachable spirit. Tell God how much you desire His and honor His Word. Let Him know you want to learn more about Him.

  7. Steer your Expectation

    • When you read out of rule you won’t expect God to really speak.

    • When you read out of expectation, you will hear Him every time!

    • Tell God what you are expecting out of your time with Him.

  8. Shift the Pressure

    • If you miss a day, it’s not a big deal.

    • Pick up where you left off.

    • Bible Study is not the same as Bible Reading! Grasp the big picture. Don’t get off in the weeds! – Eva Kubasiak

  9. Stick to being a DOER of the Word!

    • Take some time to highlight something from your reading you can think on, ponder, and actually implement

    • The more Word you get inside of you, the more it will “spring up,” during normal conversation and your everyday activities. When the Holy Spirit brings something up, obey it.

    • It is much easier to read the Word and think of others who need to apply it. When you start thinking this, be sure to ask the Holy Spirit to show what He wants to work out in you.

  10. Share with a Friend

    • The more you talk about what you have learned, and process things out with a friend, the more likely you are to remember and apply what you learned.

    • Here’s a fun truth: if you ask God to use you in this way, He will give you a verse to pass on to someone throughout your day. This really ministers to people!! Highlight what sticks out you and then ask God to show you who needs to hear a verse you read. This can be a friend, coworker, family member, or even a stranger.

    • Faith comes by hearing! So when you hear the Word of God spoken, even if you are speaking to yourself, faith will rise!

Bonus tip: Do not wait until Monday, next week, next month, or next year to start a new plan. Start small. Start nervous. Just start!

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!
