3 Essential Lessons on Spiritual Growth in Communication That God Taught Me This Year

On my 37th birthday, I found myself reflecting on the past year, a time that was rich with unexpected lessons from God about spiritual growth in communication and how to effectively use my voice for His purposes. These are the top three lessons that reshaped my approach to speaking for Him.

1. Silence is Golden

This year, my husband and I faced a new type of suffering: an attack on our character. Instead of reacting defensively, God guided us to remain silent. For someone like me, who is strong-willed and naturally inclined to defend myself, this was a tough lesson. Yet, in this silence, I learned the profound power of letting God fight our battles. Sometimes, remaining silent when God instructs you to is as vital as speaking out when He commands—this period of silence allowed God to mold my heart, deepening my spiritual growth in communication and teaching me that there is strength and wisdom in knowing when to speak and when to remain silent.

2. Boundaries are Bold

Another significant lesson was the importance of setting boundaries. In situations where reconciliation isn’t possible, boundaries become essential for maintaining peace and protecting your heart. While establishing boundaries can be difficult, especially when others resist, it is crucial to keep your spirit free from bitterness. Setting boundaries taught me that using my voice isn’t just about speaking up; it’s also about creating the necessary space to protect and nurture your soul. Boundaries, though challenging to enforce, are acts of love for yourself and others, ensuring your voice remains clear and strong.

3. Consistency Molds

God also pressed the importance of consistency in my life, particularly in writing. After taking a six-month break to heal and reflect, I felt God’s call to embark on an intensive writing journey. From daily Bible reading to crafting devotionals and developing my first online course, I realized that consistency is key to growth. The regular practice of writing molded me into a more effective communicator, reinforcing the idea that preparation and persistence are what open doors to new opportunities. Through this journey, I’ve learned that the demand you place on your voice through consistent effort is matched by the opportunities God provides.
