How to Stop Backing Down When God Calls You to Speak Up

Permission to Preach

Ever feel that nudge to share God’s love, only to freeze up instead? You’re not alone. Picture this: you’re at Target, and suddenly, God prompts you to tell the cashier, “God loves you.” But instead of speaking up, you plaster on a smile, hoping it’s enough. Then, as you walk away, guilt sets in. Why did you back down?Personal Growth - Stop Backing Down When God Calls You to Speak UpIt’s time to get to the root of why we hesitate. The truth is that our actions stem from our beliefs. We’ll naturally stay silent if we doubt our ability, knowledge, or even our permission to speak. But here’s the thing: God equips everyone—yes, everyone—to share His message.

Push Through the Doubts

What have you been taught about speaking up? Maybe you’ve been told that women shouldn’t preach or that you don’t know enough to speak. But have you asked God what He thinks? Have you sought out resources to challenge those beliefs? There’s a wealth of wisdom out there to help you break free from those doubts.

Pray for Boldness to Speak

Boldness isn’t something you muster up on your own; it’s a gift from the Holy Spirit. The Bible shows us that the Holy Spirit empowers believers to speak courageously. Ask God for that boldness, and trust He will meet you where you are.

Use this simple prayer to start: “Lord, I feel afraid, but I want to be bold for You. Help me to speak Your truth and not make it about me. Amen.”

Practice Makes Perfect

Don’t buy into the myth that only certain people are called to evangelize. Start small—share your faith with one person, invite a friend to church, or post a Scripture on social media. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. Mistakes? They’ll happen, but there’s grace for that. Just keep going.

Remember, God has chosen you to proclaim His message. Embrace it, practice it, and watch how He uses your voice to make an impact. God will give you the boldness to speak His Word.

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!
