How to Stop Backing OUT When God Asks you to Speak UP

Permission to Preach

Are you tired of always backing out when God ask you to tell others about Him?

You know what I’m talking about, you are in line at Target minding your business and God whispers to you heart to tell the cashier God loves her. Instantly you start thinking of allll the reasons you can’t, shouldn’t, or won’t say a word. So you smile really big instead and you lay on the kindness in hope that it will be enough to “be a good witness.” Then the whole way to your car you are beating yourself up because you know a smile doesn’t cut it when people are hurting and in need of a Savior.

Why do we back down when God has called us to step up?

You can speak up instead of backing out when it comes to speaking for God when you get your identity settled in Him. Boldness is a heart cry.

How to Stop Backing Down When God Asks you to Speak Up

  1. Push to Know the Root Cause

    • We stay quiet because we have believed a lie. Behaviors follow beliefs.

    • If we believe we will do it wrong, don’t know the Bible enough, aren’t allowed, or didn’t really hear God, then our behavior will be nothing.

    • What have you been taught about women speaking or preaching?

  2. Pray for Boldness

    • When reading the Bible you will notice a function of the Holy Spirit is boldness. You can pray for boldness to step out for God. He will meet you there. He will go before you and prepare hearts.

      • And when they had prayed, the place where they were meeting together was shaken [a sign of God’s presence]; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness and courage. Acts 4:31 AMP

    • Boldness is not something we hype ourselves up for. It is something we are given by the Holy Spirit. Boldness is a gift to walk out our calling and the great commission.

      • The Father desires to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him freely. Luke 11:13

    • Steal my simple personal prayer for boldness: Lord, I feel afraid but I want my life to be yours. Use my mouth to bring you glory. Help me to not make it about me. Give me boldness to speak Truth. I believe you are with me. Amen.

  3. Practice Telling Other’s

    • Practice makes perfect. For some reason, in the church we seem to think that we either have the gift to speak or we don’t. God has either given us the gift of evangelism or He hasn’t. He has either graced us with an outgoing personality or He hasn’t. This could not be further from the truth. God doesn’t call certain personalities to tell the world about Him. He calls everyone.

      • But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A CONSECRATED NATION, A [special] PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 1:2 AMP

    • Ways to start practicing small:

      • Tell ONE person God brings into your daily life about Jesus.

      • Bring ONE girl along for daily errands and disciple her.

      • Share your testimony with ONE family member.

      • Invite ONE friend to church.

      • Post ONE video on social media about a Scripture you read.

      • Write ONE prophetic card.

There will be times as you are practicing where you do make mistakes. You have to be ok with looking like a fool for Christ. There will be times where you back out and there is grace for that. Pause, recalibrate, and start again.

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!

The Preacher Girl Club empowers women to use their voice for Jesus through our online coaching community, practical courses, and leadership resources. Our members collaborate, speak at each other's events, write content together, and start ministries side by side.

If I can preach, so can you!
