How to Properly Process and Steward Prophetic Words

Practical Tips

In 2019, I had just completed an Echo Weekend and I was totally spent. We ended the weekend by giving each attendee a prophetic word. I drove straight from Waco to Dallas and headed into a meeting at Gateway Church. Every year they host what they call Presbytery (which I wish ever church did!) This is where they highlight certain volunteers and publicly prophsey over them. I asked the Lord to give me a word. I expected Him to pour into me as I had given everything I had to the women who came to the Echo Weekend for training.

Sunday night we were in the service and I did not get a word. I was thrilled to see everyone else get theirs but was still asking God to speak to me. Since Joel was on staff at the time we were invited to the back to chat with the men and women who were leading the prophetic and some of the pastors as well. As the night was wrapping up and we began to say our goodbyes one of the prophets said God was speaking to him about me and wanted to deliver the word to Joel and I before we left. I KNEW it! I felt that God was going to speak to me. But I was not ready for the word!

Here is an excerpt from the prophetic word:

Prophetic Word to Write

Monday, June 10, 2019

Bob Hazlett

In many ways the Lord says, there are times when you have been accused of having too big of a mouth. Speaking up too quick or saying things too quick but the Lord is saying I am going to use your big mouth in this season to raise up a generation of women who have been told to sit down or be quiet.

I didn’t create you to be quiet. I didn’t create you to be soft spoken. You don’t have an off switch. You don’t have a volume button. You have one gear and that is full on. God has called you to be full on. He has called to be full on. You are a teacher, you can teach the Word but I hear the Lord say you are a preacher! You don’t be ashamed to be a preacher. You’re going to make preaching feminine again. You’re going to make preaching strong again. I feel like the last season the Lord has raised up the teaching gift in the body of Christ but He is about to breathe on the anointing to preach the Word on women. There is a new paradigm in co-pastoring and the men and the women had a voice.

Now God says I am going to give you a pen that matches your voice. Now I am going to give you a pen that matches your voice. There is some writing in you that the Lord says this move isn’t just to get you down there to rest, this is a move to get you to sit still for a little bit so we can write together. I saw the Lord begin to release an angelic grace that an angel is going to come alongside you begin to write. In the middle of that God has been doing something to build a platform in the last 5 years but particularly, over the last three years (hello Echo!) there have been places where you pinch yourself and think wow I don’t belong here. The Lord said I prepared the platform for you so when the proclamation comes out it has a place to go. You aren’t going to be a message without a megaphone. You are going to have a message and with that, I will give you a megaphone.”

To some this word would have been very exciting. It would have been a confirmation to their passion. It would have set a fire in their belly.

But for me it was terrifying. Instantly my brain started up with the excuses!

Whoa!! Hold up Lord, I am NOT a writer! You got the wrong girl. I am a speaker. I am not good with writing. I am horrible at grammar. I have no idea where to put commas. I don’t even like to write. There are too many rules and… it’s boring. Bottom line is, I don’t want to write.

God knew that was coming and He was not to be deterred. As I took the steps to steward the word He spoke over me, He changed my heart.

Here are four things you can do to process and steward a prophetic word:

  1. Weigh it

    • Does it align with Scripture? Bring it to Jesus and ask Him to confirm it to your spirit. When He confirms the word to your personally, no one can convince you otherwise.

    • Does it resonate with your husband and/orleaders? Can they see this gift in you? Does it bare witness with their spirit?

  2. Wait on it

    • Don’t try to make it happen in your own strength

    • Stewarding and striving are two different things. Stewarding does the work but does not exhaust you. Striving is a never ending hamster wheel that leads to nowhere. Do what you can behind the scenes and let God do the rest.

  3. Watch for it

    • Record it somewhere you’ll see consistently. I record it on my iphone memos and then I transcribe it and save it to “prophetic words” in a folder in google docs

    • Look for signs and expect it to happen in faith. Remind God of the word He spoke over you.

  4. Walk towards it

    • Steward it privately. I have been stewarding this word to write by writing a word from my daily Bible readings, writing these blogs, and writing 5-7 instagram posts every week. When you steward a prophetic word, God always comes through for you.

    • As God opens public doors, walk through them boldly

Above all, trust God. Take steps. Ready yourself.

  • If you get a word about a new job coming your way: Get your resume ready. Prepare for an interview. Polish up your wardrobe.

  • If you get a word about getting married: Get your health in order. Check your finances. See someone about your emotional health.

  • If you get a word about starting a ministry, leading or speaking: Submit afresh to God, share it with a trusted source for prayer, write the vision down

God still speaks! He cares about every detail of your life. He will direct your steps with His Word and with words given to you by others. If you have never received a prophetic word or are unsure of what the prophetic is (I grew up Southern Baptist and did not hear about the prophetic until I was 21) here is a great book I recommend to being wading in the waters of the supernatural gift of prophecy.

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!

The Preacher Girl Club empowers women to use their voice for Jesus through our online coaching community, practical courses, and leadership resources. Our members collaborate, speak at each other's events, write content together, and start ministries side by side.
