Speak Up, Even When They Tell You Not To: A Biblical Response

Personal Growth

When someone says you shouldn’t speak or teach about Jesus, take a page from Peter and John’s playbook. Peter and John basically said, “But Peter and John answered them, ‘Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge.'” (Acts 4:18-19 ESV).

How to Respond When Someone Tells You Not To Speak for Jesus

Step 1: Process the Source

Whether it’s religious folks or the non-religious, people might try to shut you down. Even well-meaning believers might use Scripture to keep you quiet. But here’s the thing: God’s Word never silences women. Ever.

Unbelievers? They definitely don’t want anyone—especially a confident woman—spreading the Good News. Why? Because you’re a threat to the darkness!

So, if anyone other than God Himself tells you to stop preaching, hit pause and ask, “Who am I really listening to?”

Step 2: Proceed with Preaching

Once you’ve figured out who’s trying to keep you quiet, it’s time to bring your feelings to Jesus. Let Him reassure your heart and fill you with the Holy Spirit’s boldness. Your voice matters.

The early church exploded because the disciples refused to stay silent. We can follow their lead. You can even use their exact words: “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge,” because we can’t help but speak about what we’ve seen and heard.

So, let others worry about whether it’s right for you to speak. You’ve witnessed God’s work in your life—don’t keep that quiet! As you speak out, expect signs and wonders to follow.

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!
