Hear me out: Waiting for God to open doors can be a waste of time.

Permission to Preach

Waiting for God to open doors can be a waste of time. Not always of course. There are many times when God tells us to wait. There are several scriptures about open doors. Revelation 3:7-8, Isaiah 22:22, 1 Corinthians 16:9, Isaiah 45:1 to list a few. What I am proposing today, is that some teachings about waiting on God to open doors have brought us to a dead end path which leads to many believers sitting around and doing absolutely nothing while we wait for God to “open a door.”

Growing up in the Church, I have always been taught to wait. Wait for God to open doors. Wait for the right season. Wait for the right time. Wait for the leadership to release you. Wait on the right circumstances. Wait to make sure your heart is right. Wait to be sure your motives are right. Wait until God has purified your intentions.

Wait. Wait. Wait.

While I believe every Christian is called to continuously grow in our spiritual maturity, I do not adhere to the teaching that we must be perfect in order to get started.

These are incomplete teachings that end up making young or immature believers feel that it is WRONG to desire to be used by God. There will always be times we are tempted to do something for God with wrong intentions or motives but as we go He will be with us and will correct our motives. We have to have a balance of being matured and making moves while God matures us.

The main Scripture used to teach this way of thinking is Revelation 3:7-8 which says, “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true, the one who has the key of David. What he opens, no one can close; and what he closes, no one can open.

Yes God does open and close doors no man can open but that doesn’t mean we wait in silence for some arbitrary open door to minister to others. Jesus has already given us the command to GO. He did not say wait until I open a door for you to preach. Wait until  I create a platform for you to stand on. Wait until a pastor ordains you. Wait until you get enough education under your belt.

He simply said GO and make disciples.

Go with the strength and passion you have and God will work out everything along the way. Create your own opportunities with a knowing that God is the one who gave you the ideas to follow through on the Great Commission anyways.

Waiting for everything to be perfect is wasting your own time. Your destiny will not just manifest one day. You have to STEP INTO your destiny. You have to MEET your destiny which means you gotta get moving.

Of course stay submitted and keep growing but get going!

Waiting turns into wandering if you don’t wrestle out your calling with God. At some point, you will have to stop waiting and start wading into the waters. Don’t waste time waiting. The door is open for you to walk on through!

You will have to: Take action. Step out. Make a move. Fail forward. Make mistakes. Risk it. Go for gold.

Here are a few questions to get you pondering on your own permission to preach:

  1. What IF Jesus waited for someone to invite Him to preach?

  2. What IF Jesus waited for someone to give Him permission to gather the 12 and teach them?

  3. What IF Jesus has ALREADY opened the door for you to preach, teach, lead via the great commission?

I didn't come from a ministry background, but when I married my husband in 2010 with an Interior Design degree from LSU and no seminary training, he welcomed me into the ministry. In 2012, a prophetic couple told me that I had the anointing of Lydia, and God wanted to use it to funnel millions through the Kingdom by starting online courses and classes. At this time, I had NO dream or even thought of Let’s Echo, but I received the word from the Lord.

Today, I'm witnessing that prophetic word coming true. You are a prophetic word fulfilled and a dream come true!

The Preacher Girl Club empowers women to use their voice for Jesus through our online coaching community, practical courses, and leadership resources. Our members collaborate, speak at each other's events, write content together, and start ministries side by side.

If I can preach, so can you!
